I spend nearly no thought time on Fox News, but this little post is very amusing, Fox News Paid Ousted Exec $8 Million In ‘Hush Money’: Gawker. I am sharing this because the author, Jack Mirkinson, calls the recipient of the hush money a consigliere. Such a clever way to paint Fox News in a rather specific light. I don’t think I’ve been so impressed with word choice since my last Joss Whedon comic book.
I was on welfare as a child. I got free lunch, food stamps, charity baskets for the holidays, and certainly lots of other assistance I didn’t know about. I was also pretty, smart, and knew how to talk to adults. I used those gifts, coupled with a strong work ethic and a bit of luck to change my life. It wasn’t easy or romantic. It was hard and scary. I am still afraid of being poor. I may always be. Poverty smells bad, feels unsafe, and is so hard to escape.
I’ve been resisting the urge to write a post comparing Walmart to Costco, mostly because it’s been done, a lot. Robert Reich saved me from having to think up my own Walmart post by writing one that I like even more than the Costco comparison. In his blog post Mr Reich compares Walmart’s business model to Henry Ford’s.
