One of my businesses, Santa Lucia, provides supports for people with developmental disabilities. It’s really rewarding work and has enhanced my life in many ways. For the past six years I’ve been a member of several people’s teams. In the Santa Lucia world, a team is a group of people who help the individual with disabilities to figure out and reach their goals.

I have lots of teams. I have a team who helps me to successfully parent my daughters (my husband, their teachers, babysitters, and grandmothers), a team for my physical, mental and spiritual well being (too many to list), a team to make Santa Lucia a success (my staff and stakeholders), and now a team to take Xpress to the next level.

Xpress just added a new team member, and she sent me the nicest email. I am pretty confident and persistent, but even the grittiest girl needs to hear something nice now and then. This is what I heard today, “I think you are a winner and want to help make it happen.”

We all need people to disagree with us, to show us a different perspective, to questions our assumptions and knowledge. We also really need people who see our greatness and speak it out loud.

Go Team!
